ACORN Project Update - October 2010

Seaview are working with the Australian Coastal Ocean Radar Network (ACORN) which forms part of the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS). The ACORN network currently consists of three WERA radar deployments in the Great Barrier Reef, Perth Canyon and South Australia Gulfs. A further system is scheduled to be installed at Coffs Harbour in 2010.

Seaview Realtime software is being used to measure current, wind and wave parameters for each deployment and the data are processed at James Cook University in Townsville, Queensland. The ACORN system provides a basis for applied research into wave modelling and offers test sites for hydrodynamic modelling. The radar data will be made freely available from IMOS via a national archive.
