A WERA HF radar system has been deployed within the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia. This forms the first stage of the Australian Coastal Ocean Radar Network (ACORN).
The facility will comprise a coordinated network of HF radars delivering quality assured data into a national archive. The ACORN project is part of the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) which is a distributed set of equipment and data-information services which collectively contribute to meeting the needs of marine climate research in Australia. The network will expand during the next year to include radar nodes on the south and west coasts of Australia.
